TUMBLR - I’m running my first diversity training tomorrow! It is geared specifically towards awareness/inclusion of a diverse population when recruiting for volunteers for any given program or event!
Here’s my final list of questions. I know it’s probably a bit too long at the moment, but I’m having a really hard time deleting questions. I’ve done my best to compile a variety of statements from privilege walk descriptions on teh internetz. Look it over and check my language? THX LOVE YOU.
Privilege Walk Activity Questions
· Please step forward: If you are right handed.
· Please step forward: If your primary national identity is American.
· Please step forward: If you were born in the United States.
· Please step back: If your ancestors were forced to come to the USA, not by choice.
· Please step back: If you were ever called names because of your race, ethnicity, class, actual or perceived gender or gender expression, sex, ability, age, veteran status, national origin, or sexual orientation.
· Please step back: If you have been the victim of physical violence based on the aforementioned categories.
· Please step forward: If there were people of color who worked in your household as nannies, servants, gardeners, etc.
· Please step forward: If one or both of your parents or guardians has a college degree.
· Please step back: If you were raised in an area, where there was prostitution, drug activity, etc.
· Please step forward: If you studied the culture of your ancestors in elementary school.
· Please step back: If when you started school in the US, you spoke another language at home.
· Please step forward: If there were more than 50 books in your house when you grew up.
· Please step back: If you were ever hungry because there was not enough money to buy food when you were young.
· Please step back: If one of your parents or guardians was unemployed or laid off, not by choice.
· Please step back: If your family ever had to move because they could not afford the rent.
· Please step back: If you were ever discouraged from academics/ jobs due to race, ethnicity, class, actual or perceived gender or gender expression, sex, ability, age, veteran status, national origin, or sexual orientation.

· Please step forward: If you were encouraged to attend college by your parent(s) or legal guardians.
· Please step back: If you were raised in a single parent household.
· Please step forward: If your family owned the house where you grew up.
· Please step forward: If you were ever offered a good job because of your association with a friend or family member.
· Please step back: If you were ever accused of cheating /lying because of your race, ethnicity, class, actual or perceived gender or gender expression, sex, ability, age, veteran status, national origin, or sexual orientation.
· Please step back: If you were ever stopped/questioned by the police due to the above categories.
· Please step forward: If you ever inherited money or property.
· Please step back: If while in grade school (preK – 12th grade), you had to rely primarily on public transportation.
· Please step forward: If you have always felt safe holding hands with your partner when you walk together.
· Please step forward: If you can legally marry anyone you might fall in love with.
· Please step forward: If you can be in your workplace without hearing a negative comment about your sexual orientation.
· Please step back: If you leave your office late at night and worry about safety as you walk to your car.
· Please step forward: if you speak your mind in a staff meeting and know that you won’t be openly challenged.
· Please step forward: If you can act assertively about a topic or situation without someone asking if it’s that time of the month.
· Please step back: If you can’t go into a supermarket and find the staple foods that fit with your cultural tradition.
· Please step forward: If you can go into a hair salon and be assured someone will know how to cut your hair.
· Please step forward: If you should need to move, you can rent/buy housing in an affordable area where you would want to live.
